Summary: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in want of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. Yet for Steven Rogers, painter of miniatures, it is not the company of ladies, but the acquaintance of Captain James Buchanan Barnes, Royal Navy, that captivates his imagination.

Title: A Cottage Christmas
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] awesomecherry
Rating: E
Word Count: 17,238
Summary: Christmas should be in the air, there should be sleigh bells ringing and decorations plastered everywhere, Steve should be dragging Bucky through the nearest Christmas tree farm, and worrying about which tree will fit in their tiny Brooklyn apartment, and what huge monstrosity Stark will insist they buy for their spacious floor in Avenger’s Tower.

Instead, what’s in the air is apparently enough pollen to have Steve wheezing for breath with every step, the constant ringing of sleigh bells is giving Bucky a migraine, and Steve doesn’t have to worry about buying a tree because apparently he’s allergic to them.

Steve snorts when he hears the song The 12 Days of Christmas, and immediately starts hacking up a lung, more like the 12 days of hell.

Title: cross this river to the other side
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] defcontwo
Rating: T
Word Count: 14,575
Summary: Here is the truth about Captain America and the Howling Commandos that every World War II historian must come to accept at one point or another: we will never know everything. We won’t even come close.

So much was lost with the untimely death of Captain America. While the man beneath the uniform sunk to the bottom of the North Atlantic, the myth lived on, only to grow bigger and more unwieldy as the years went by. Now, it is near impossible to tell fact from fiction, to separate out truth from propaganda.

In 1943, the Howling Commandos wrote goodbye letters to be given to their loved ones in the event of their deaths.
In 2014, Sharon Carter finds those letters in a tin can in an abandoned HYDRA base.

Steve laughs, because damn, but what a ridiculous idea.

Or, five times Steve caught Bucky looking at him, and the one time he looked first.

Summary: The year was 1930. Peggy Carter was on a one-woman mission to uncover the truth of Franklin county, the moonshine capital of America.
Meanwhile, Steve Rogers was fighting to keep the family diner running after his mother's passing. The last thing he wanted was for someone to poke their nose into his and Bucky's side business. Times were hard. They needed to make a dollar same as anybody else.
This was a story about the small people, who unknowingly propped up the Broadwalk Empire.

But apparently in this day and age anyone with $29.95 can get a decent replica. The unfairness of this is of galactic proportions.

Summary: Bucky gets on a Manhattan bound train around 2:30, heading to 8th St. He watches the Lady far off on Liberty Island as they roll over the East River. He wonders where Steve might want to go for lunch. What he'd say if Bucky asked him if he’d ever thought about treating this thing between them as real.
